What a stick of butter actually is

One US stick is 1/2 cup, 8 tablespoons, 4 ounces or 113 grams. The wrapper is printed with tablespoon marks, which is why American recipes call for fractions of a stick without further explanation. European butter is sold in 250 g blocks with no markings at all, which is the source of most confusion.

Salted or unsalted?

The conversion is identical either way — this is a weight question, not a composition one. But salted butter carries roughly 1.6 g of salt per 113 g stick, so if you substitute it in a recipe calling for unsalted, cut about a quarter teaspoon of added salt per stick.
