APY Calculator
Convert a nominal rate into the annual percentage yield you actually earn once compounding is counted, and see the cash difference on a real balance.
Every figure below is labelled in the currency you pick. Amounts are not converted — enter values in the same currency.
APY versus APR, in one sentence each
APR is the rate before compounding; APY is the rate after it. A savings account paying 5% APR compounded monthly actually returns 5.116% APY, because each month's interest starts earning interest of its own. Lenders quote APR, savings providers quote APY, and comparing one against the other is the single most common mistake in personal finance.
Why compounding frequency matters less than people expect
Moving from annual to monthly compounding on a 5% rate adds about 0.12 percentage points. Moving from monthly to daily adds roughly another 0.006. The gap between two providers' headline rates is almost always larger than the gap their compounding schedules create, so compare APY figures and stop there.
The formula
APY = (1 + r/n)^n − 1
Every result on this page comes from this formula. Nothing is rounded until the final display, so figures match a spreadsheet to the cent.

APY Calculator — frequently asked questions
Is APY the same as interest rate?
No. The interest rate is the nominal figure the provider advertises; APY folds in how often that interest is added to the balance. APY is always equal to or higher than the nominal rate, and it is the number to compare across accounts.
What is continuous compounding?
The theoretical limit where interest is added at every instant. It uses A = Pe^(rt) and sets the ceiling on what any compounding schedule can produce — at 5% that ceiling is 5.127%.
Is this apy calculator free to use?
Yes. Every calculator on the site is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser, so your figures never leave your device.
How accurate is the result?
The maths is exact for the formula shown on the page. Accuracy in the real world depends on your inputs and on assumptions the formula cannot see, so treat the output as a well-grounded estimate rather than a quote.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The page is responsive, weighs a few kilobytes and works offline once loaded, so it behaves the same on a phone as on a desktop.
